Need Help with this problem please. 1. The perimeter of a triangle is 104 feet. The ratio of the three sides is 5:9:12. Find the length of each side of the triangle.

OpenStudy (mathmale):

If the ratio of the 3 sides is 5:9:12, add together those three lengths (obtaining SUM) and then form three fractions: 5/SUM, 9/SUM,12/SUM (Note: if you add these up, the result will be 1.) Then the length of the shortest side of the given triange is (5/SUM)*104 ft. And so on.

OpenStudy (danjs):

sides 5x, 9x, 12x perimeter = 104 = 5x + 9x + 12x 104 = 26x x = 4 sides 5*4, 9*4, 12*4

OpenStudy (danjs):

so 20, 36, 48 similar, i just put the common factor x in to make that ratio for the sides

OpenStudy (apschoollife):

Thank you both so much, you were a lot of help :) I understand it now. Thanks.
