Brian took out 32 plates to put on tables. He put 4 plates on each table. Which equation can be used to calculate the number of tables Brian put plates on? Let t stand for the unknown number of tables. A. 32t = 4 B 32 - t = 4 C 32 / t = 4 D t / 32 = 4

OpenStudy (milkncookies):

First question, Why does Brian have 32 plates.

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Have you thought about this problem and/or tried to write an appropriate equation of your own to compare with the four given possible solutions? think: You begin with 32 plates and put four on each table; how many tables?

im thinking C

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Please, show your actual work, or explain your reasoning. "I'm thinking c" makes it sound as though you are guessing.

32 plates then you have the tables and put 4 plates on each table sounds like division

OpenStudy (sagewilson):

C is incorrect. Normally you'd need to divide 32 by 4, but that's not an option. You'll need to use inverse operations. To find the answer of a division problem, but there's a variable in the equation you'll need to multiply. Same with addition. Multiplication is the opposite of division and addition is the opposite of division. Vice versa. So now, what do you think the answer would be.

A

OpenStudy (sagewilson):

Yup ^_^
