When is the function constant? Explain how you know.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@damonte212

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

Any ideas? :-)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2-4??

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

Correct! How do you know?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because it is the only place where the line is the same (i have no idea how to make it sound smart)

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

The same what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I honesty dont even know how to word it.. :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Its the only part that doesn't change

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

Good, think about "what" is being constant in the interval 2-4?

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

What exactly is NOT changing as you move from 2 towards 4 on the x-axis?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the number of (x) hours?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

since the hours keep going down except on 2-4 then it starts going down again, so 2-4 is the only time its staying consistent

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

Staying consistent at what value?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

value?? I dont know :( im really bad at this...

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

Look at the y-values in the interval, what is it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its decreasing?

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

Between 2-4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no, it, uhm, *stays the same*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks for the help, but i dont want to waste your time anymore

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

Yes. What does it stay the same at? What is the y-value at 2? At 3? And at 4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

15?

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

YES!!! Exactly that is the "constant" value

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oooooh ok!!! So basically "instead of decreasing at 2-4 it stays consistent at 15."

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

Not just "basically" but that is exactly how you figure these kind of questions out :-)

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

Look along the x-axis and see how the valued of the graph of the the function change.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thank you so much xx

OpenStudy (anonymous):

have a nice day

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

Thanks for learning :-)
