The average global temperature is increasing; however, Michigan has had some of the coldest winters on record. How has Global Warming made Michigan have colder winters?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A. Colder air always moves to the equator. B.Because there is more warm air, it is pushing up to the poles. This means that the cold air must go somewhere. Because Michigan falls within this jet stream, it has an increase of colder air. C.The air from the poles are getting colder and therefore pushing down the globe. This is what is giving Michigan colder winters. D.There has not been any real data to support the global change in temperatures.

I personally would go with D - personally I think the Earth is getting warmer, but there is nothing we can do about it. But do not go with that one because whoever wrote your curriculum obviously believes what I do not. Instead, I think you should do with option B - it makes the most logical sense. If the air is getting COLDER at the poles, then it wouldn't be global WARMING, it would be the opposite. So that knocks out options C and D - A isn't right either (cold air does NOT always move towards the equator), so the only thing left is option B!

OpenStudy (lizardman449):

I hope that helps!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thxs

Atsie (atsie):

Global warming is more so known as a warming of the earth's atomsphere. Why would this affect Michigan's cold winters? It simply makes no sense at all.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i agree with you @Lizardman449

OpenStudy (lizardman449):

No problem. But please read everything I just wrote and try to understand it so that you learn something instead of just getting the answer to your question. ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well i go to k12 and this did not make sence to me

OpenStudy (lizardman449):

Thanks Ghostridr99.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thxs lizardman

Atsie (atsie):

make sure to understand what global warming means before linking the peices together.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thxs atsie

Atsie (atsie):

Sure :)

OpenStudy (lizardman449):

No problem!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have another question

OpenStudy (lizardman449):

Shoot!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is the most likely impact of climate change on Michigan cherry production? * A long term increase because of greater photosynthesis. Little change because cherries are a tolerant species. More frequent crop failures due to early warming followed by severe frost. More frequent crop failures due to mid-summer drying of the soil.

OpenStudy (lizardman449):

Well, first we need to define "climate change" as opposed to "global warming." Climate Change is the change in a particular area's usual weather or climate. Global warming is the warming of the Earth as a whole.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok i still dont understand

OpenStudy (lizardman449):

I'm getting there (sorry, I was thinking about the options). I seriously doubt it would be the first option, but after that one it all depends on if the climate is getting colder or warmer. Is this the first question AFTER the last one I helped answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok

OpenStudy (lizardman449):

If this is the one immediately after the last one I helped answer, then we can assume it is going to be getting COLDER. Which means we can eliminate the last option.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

kk

OpenStudy (lizardman449):

I am not too involved with many plants - especially NOT cherries, so I do not know if they are a tolerant fruit or not. You are going to have to take a 50/50 (ish) chance on those two - or you can ask someone else. Sorry I can't help any more. :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol its ok i still ahve more questions

OpenStudy (lizardman449):

Ok. What's next?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The water cycle is made up of three processes that work together. Which process is missing at “(a)” below?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

srry i didn't come i was REALLY busy

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can u help me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that link dont work

OpenStudy (lizardman449):

Just google a picture of the Water Cycle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok done

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:|

OpenStudy (lizardman449):

Ok. Do you get it now?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (lizardman449):

Ok. What's next?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Heterotrophs on Earth breathe in oxygen and breathe out carbon dioxide. Autotrophs make their own food by taking in carbon dioxide. In the total atmosphere, what is the most abundant element? * Carbon dioxide Nitrogen Oxygen Hydrogen

OpenStudy (lizardman449):

If you had asked about Mars, Venus, Jupiter, etc. I would have answered almost immediately. As a would-be Astrophysicist I know more about THOSE planets than our own. But Nitrogen is actually the most abundant in our atmosphere. Here is a link you can go to so you can learn more about our atmosphere: http://www.space.com/17683-earth-atmosphere.html

OpenStudy (lizardman449):

They are trying to trick you with that little bit of information at the beginning of the question. Do you have any more questions?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thxs

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i have more

OpenStudy (lizardman449):

Ok.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A student filled a graduated cylinder with the amount of water shown below. How much more water needs to be added to the cylinder to measure 25 mL?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1 mL 5 mL 6 mL 4 mL

OpenStudy (lizardman449):

5. Right? the water level is at 20 and you need 25: 25-20 = 5.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok i have another

OpenStudy (lizardman449):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Students planted bean seeds in the same kind of soil in separate cups. The cups were put next to each other on a sunny windowsill. Cup A was giving 10 mL of water every other day. Cup B was given no water. Which of these is the independent variable in the experiment? * The amount of sunlight The type of seed The amount of water The type of soil

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the water

OpenStudy (lizardman449):

The amount of water. Ok, so an independent variable is a variable you can change or control. The only thing you are changing in this experiment is the water.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thxs more

OpenStudy (lizardman449):

@tEMMIE - you need to explain the answer when you give the answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there's not really a way i can :/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In the graph above, the time when the number of living bacteria is increasing at the greatest rate occurs… * During the first 2 hours Between the 2nd and the 4th hour Between the 4th and 6th hour Between the 6th and 10th hour Between the 11th and 13th hour

OpenStudy (lizardman449):

4th and 6th hours. The reason is because that is the time it goes up the most in the smallest amount of time.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thxs thats it

OpenStudy (lizardman449):

Cool! I hope this helped and I hope you get a good grade on that test!! :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thxs bye
