AWARD AND FAN!! ALGEBRA 1 Choose the equation below that represents the line passing through the point (2, –4) with a slope of one half. y = one halfx + 5 y = one halfx − 3 y = one halfx − 5 y = one halfx + 3

OpenStudy (curry):

C

OpenStudy (curry):

2(1) - 5 = -4

OpenStudy (mysangels):

You can just substitute the coordinate into the equation. Do you understand?

OpenStudy (priyar):

don't give direct answer @Curry we must help arrive at the answer...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So -4 = 1/2(2) + 5 would be the first option?

OpenStudy (mysangels):

Yes.

OpenStudy (curry):

Hmm, that would evaluate to 6. YOu want it to evaluate -4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and then i just keep replacing y and x with the coordinets?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay

OpenStudy (mysangels):

Yep. It's as easy as that.

OpenStudy (curry):

So, you shouldn't just plug in aimlessly. You should just plug in x, into each equtaion and see which one gives you correct y.

OpenStudy (mysangels):

When both sides equal each other, you have the right answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, thank you so much guys!

OpenStudy (mysangels):

Anytime! ^-^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you guys medal each other so you both get the award?

OpenStudy (danjs):

That is a good last resort for a test with multiple choice answers when you don't know how to do the problem. The point - to understand how to put together a linear equation from a point (x,y) and a slope direction.
