So, I think I'm going to major in CS. Any recommendations of what I should learn (or try to learn) before I start college in the fall?
If you have an idea of what language you'll be working in, a head start will sure help.
hmmm i think you should try to improve your Maths if you are not good at it plus you should try and learn the basics of object oriented programming (OOP) instead of going for any language because OOP itself applies on many languages including the top languages like C++ and Java etc.
i started with java in school, but before that i used to make some macro and some basic Ai using autoit... and now i' have learned c++ and vb.net. and teaching my myself HTML
by the way im also a cs major here at UMBC
Start with this free course: https://www.edx.org/course/introduction-computer-science-harvardx-cs50x or this one: https://www.edx.org/course/introduction-computer-science-mitx-6-00-1x-6 This is also worth reading after you graduate http://matt.might.net/articles/what-cs-majors-should-know/
I think. First, you need to determine what you love in computer science? After that, you will know what to do next. Four important areas in computer science: Theory of computation Algorithms and data structures Programming methodology and languages Computer elements and architecture. In addition to these four areas, some other fields such as: Software engineering, artificial intelligence, computer networking and communication, database systems, parallel computation, distributed computation, human–computer interaction, computer graphics, operating systems, and numerical and symbolic computation as being important areas of computer science. Good luck!.
