OpenStudy (cheesecakekitten):

f(x) = |x + 7| Evaluate f(-12) A. -19 B.-5 C. 5 D. 19

OpenStudy (priyar):

what is f ?

OpenStudy (stormer15):

do you have an equation

OpenStudy (cheesecakekitten):

No..This is it.

OpenStudy (stormer15):

you need an equation to solve

OpenStudy (priyar):

no..check ur question again..

OpenStudy (cheesecakekitten):

Please explain.

OpenStudy (priyar):

f must be defined..only then we can solve it

OpenStudy (priyar):

otherwise its just a letter!

OpenStudy (cheesecakekitten):

Oh wait...

OpenStudy (stormer15):

why you need an equation? example: f(x) = 3x + 5 f(-12) = 3*-12 + 5 f(-12) = -31 ------------------------ that is why you need one

OpenStudy (cheesecakekitten):

I know i know f(x) = |x + 7| that's the equation. I'll edit it into the question too.

OpenStudy (stormer15):

f(-12) = |-12 + 7|

OpenStudy (priyar):

substitute -12 in place of x

OpenStudy (cheesecakekitten):

5 thanks.

OpenStudy (priyar):

correct!

OpenStudy (stormer15):

correct :)

OpenStudy (cheesecakekitten):

Both of you deserve medals. BUT THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE SO I'LL FAN ANOTHER.

OpenStudy (cheesecakekitten):

Thanks again!

OpenStudy (stormer15):

anytime \(\ddot\smile\)

OpenStudy (cheesecakekitten):

I have a few more. :)

OpenStudy (priyar):

its ok..@Stormer15 gave me a medal.. thanks @Stormer15 ..

OpenStudy (stormer15):

yw :)

OpenStudy (cheesecakekitten):

f(x) = |x - 5| + 3 Evaluate f(2). A. 6 B. 4 C. 0 D. 11

OpenStudy (stormer15):

f(2) = |2-5| + 3

OpenStudy (priyar):

its similar to last q

OpenStudy (priyar):

do u understand what we are doing @CheesecakeKitten in both q's?

OpenStudy (cheesecakekitten):

yup.

OpenStudy (priyar):

ok thats good!

OpenStudy (cheesecakekitten):

The answer is 0. :)

OpenStudy (priyar):

no..|-3| = 3 (||--> stands for always positive)

OpenStudy (priyar):

so what will be the answer?

OpenStudy (cheesecakekitten):

What do you mean? The only answers are 6, 4, 0, and 11.

OpenStudy (priyar):

yes.. i just told u the first term..there is still a 3 to be added..

OpenStudy (cheesecakekitten):

Oh okay so 6?

OpenStudy (priyar):

yeah! correct

OpenStudy (cheesecakekitten):

OH GOOD.
