ill fan

@Qwertty123

OpenStudy (wcrmelissa2001):

same as the other question! cross multiply

OpenStudy (wcrmelissa2001):

alternatively you can simplify both fractions first so when you cross multiply you don't get such a big number

OpenStudy (cmtboy2):

ok

OpenStudy (qwertty123):

Same steps! Different numbers!

OpenStudy (qwertty123):

Cross multiply: s * 26 = 39 * 18

OpenStudy (phi):

though people use "cross multiply" it's not very efficient the easiest way is to multiply both sides by the 39, like this \[ \frac{39}{39} s = \frac{18\cdot 39}{26} \] on the left side 39/39 is 1 so you get \[ s = \frac{18\cdot 39}{26} \]

OpenStudy (cmtboy2):

ok thank you @phi

OpenStudy (qwertty123):

Simplifying s * 26 = 39 * 18

OpenStudy (cmtboy2):

ok

OpenStudy (phi):

the other "trick" is to try to divide the top and bottom by the same number *before* multiplying out the top. to use this trick, you should learn a few of the rules for what numbers divide into another for example: if a number is even, then 2 divides into it if the sum of the digits is divisible by 3 , then the number is divisible by 3 for example, for 18, 1+8=9 and 9 is divisible by 3 so you know 18 is also

OpenStudy (qwertty123):

Looks like you don't need my help.

OpenStudy (cmtboy2):

ya i do @Qwertty123 even if i don't your still my freind

OpenStudy (qwertty123):

oh okay! :)

OpenStudy (qwertty123):

Reorder the terms for easier multiplication: 26s = 39 * 18

OpenStudy (qwertty123):

Then you: Multiply 39 * 18 26s = 702

OpenStudy (phi):

I would start by dividing the top 18 by 2 and the bottom number 26 by 2 you get \[ s= \frac{9\cdot 39}{13} \] if you write 39 as 3*13 you have \[ s= \frac{9\cdot 3\cdot 13}{13} \] it should be clear what to divide top and bottom by to simplify more

OpenStudy (qwertty123):

Then you do these steps! Solving 26s = 702 Solving for variable 's'. Move all terms containing s to the left, all other terms to the right. Divide each side by '26'! :D What do you get when Dividing each side by 26?

OpenStudy (cmtboy2):

26/26=1

OpenStudy (cmtboy2):

@Qwertty123

OpenStudy (wcrmelissa2001):

from 26s=702 divide both sides by 26. So you're right on one side coz you'll get 1s=702/26 which is?

OpenStudy (cmtboy2):

27

OpenStudy (qwertty123):

YEAH! great job! :)
