Stalactites and stalagmites are two coneshaped mineral formations that form in caves. Stalactites hang down from the ceiling and stalagmites rise up from the cave floor. What causes cave minerals to form in this way? Existing minerals change into new minerals when nearby molten rock causes an increase in temperature. Molten rock cools and hardens as it reaches Earth's surface. Groundwater carrying dissolved materials combines with surface water and causes minerals to precipitate out of solution. Groundwater heated by molten rock reacts with minerals in the rock to form new minerals.
well, considering that stalactites and stalagmites are formed by water, you can eliminate the first two answers. So, you wanna try and guess which of the two that are left is the answer?
Also, heres a bit more help. A description of what causes them. As the redeposited minerals build up after countless water drops, a stalactite is formed. If the water that drops to the floor of the cave still has some dissolved calcite in it, it can deposit more dissolved calcite there, forming a stalagmite. not exactly the direct answer but it should be obvious enough
So, C?
yes, C. I would have just said the answer but I've had some trouble from mods because of it.
Yeah, I understand. My thanks. You truly are, a sage. :3
lol, thanks :)
meant to type no problem instead of thanks XD
