OpenStudy (joshoyen):

I need help, please. This is really confusing. List the zeros, degrees, and end behavior of each function. Then draw a general sketch of the function. 1. y = x ( x - 3 ) ( x + 2 ) ( x - 1 ) 2. y = - ( x + 2 ) ( x - 1) ( x - 4)

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

What's confusing about it? It's already nicely factored for you. How many factors with x in them are there?

OpenStudy (joshoyen):

I know how to find the zeros, but I'm not quite sure how to find the degrees and end behavior then graph it.

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

You didn't answer my question. "How many factors with x in them are there?" 1. y = x ( x - 3 ) ( x + 2 ) ( x - 1 ) -- How many? 2. y = - ( x + 2 ) ( x - 1) ( x - 4) -- How many?

OpenStudy (joshoyen):

Oh, 1. 4? 2. 3

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

You just identified the Degree. Good work.

OpenStudy (joshoyen):

Oh, so now how do I do the graphing part? I just don't know which way I start from @tkhunny

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

You look at it. If it is of even degree, it goes the same direction on both ends. If it is of odd degree, it does not go out by the way that it came. |dw:1453774245558:dw|
