Biology 9 Online
OpenStudy (annasam1813):

I need help with some study questions to help me prepare for biology final. I don't want answers, I want help to understand how things work and how to answer the questions. :-) Water has the following properties: adhesion (the tendency to cling to other surfaces),cohesion (the tendency for water molecules to form weak bonds with one another), high specific heat (a lot of energy needed to change its temperature), and good solvent (many substances dissolve in water). Choose two of those properties, and describe how the structure of water molecules explains those two properties of water.

OpenStudy (somy):

So then, how much do you know about this topic? Tell me everything you know about water, and draw its structure for me

OpenStudy (annasam1813):

Pretty much the structure of water molecules part confuses me, and how would I describe how let's say good solvent works with the structure of water molecules? If that makes any sense. I'm pretty sure the structure of drawn like this: (I'm really bad at drawing sorry) But I think that is how it is, or that's what I remember when drawing it. |dw:1453830058441:dw|

OpenStudy (somy):

what are the chemical interactions you have heard of?

OpenStudy (annasam1813):

|dw:1453830774810:dw| Some of those 2s are suppose to be small, but I don't know how to make them that way. XD I believe that is oxygen in water.

OpenStudy (somy):

No, have you heard of Hydrogen bonding?

OpenStudy (annasam1813):

Oh, oops. XD I have heard of hydrogen bonding, isn't that when a hydrogen atom with a partial positive charge bonds with a hydrogen atom with a partial negative charge?

OpenStudy (somy):

yes very good so can you show it in my drawing of 2 water molecules?

OpenStudy (annasam1813):

|dw:1453831840753:dw| I think it was something like this.
