OpenStudy (trackwiz4):

if cos s = 1/2 and s is not in quadrant 1, what is the value of s for the angle with cos s = 1/2?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

well... what's the value of an angle whose cosine is 1/2? including first quadrant

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

check your Unit Circle :) keep in mind that, 1/2 is a positive value of cosine and yes, cosine is positive on the first quadrant BUT it's also positive on "another" quadrant so, use the "reference angle" on that quadrant :)

OpenStudy (trackwiz4):

quadrant 4?

OpenStudy (trackwiz4):

@jdoe0001

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

yes, forth quarant :), use that reference angle :)

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

man, so many typos =( fourth quadrant, yes

OpenStudy (trackwiz4):

It's totally fine! Would the value of s be 2pi?

OpenStudy (trackwiz4):

I'm taking a 5 question quiz online that I must complete today lol @jdoe0001

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

\(2\pi = 0\) so.. hmm and cosine is 0 is not 1/2

OpenStudy (trackwiz4):

When I look at the unit circle I don't really understand it.

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

ok... what's the angle that has a cosine of 1/2 in the first quadrant?

OpenStudy (trackwiz4):

pi/3?

OpenStudy (trackwiz4):

Oh I see it is 5pi/3 @jdoe0001

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

yeap :)

OpenStudy (trackwiz4):

Thank you! May you assist me on another one?

OpenStudy (trackwiz4):

@jdoe0001 If tan s = 1 with 0 < s < 2pi and s is in quadrant 1, s = ____
