In this passage, the word dire means: A. long-lasting. B. very serious. C. affectionate. D. very safe.
Read the following passage and answer the questions 6 through 10: As infants and caregivers respond to one another in the first year, the infant begins to form an attachment – a deep, affectionate, close, and enduring relationship -- to these important figures. John Bowlby, a British psychoanalyst, drew attention to the importance of attachment when he observed the dire effects of separation from parents on children who had been orphaned during World War II. These children’s depression and other emotional scars led Bowlby to propose a theory about the importance of developing a strong attachment to one’s primary caregivers – a tie that normally keeps infants close to these caregivers and, therefore, safe. Soon after Bowlby described his theory, researchers in the United States began to investigate how such attachments are formed and what happens when they are not formed, or when they are broken by loss or separation. Perhaps the most dramatic of these studies was conducted with monkeys by Harry Harlow.

@RedStealth29 did you read this passage yourself? I haven't quite yet but I just wondering and do you know maybe what the passage might express?
It's expressing how bad separation can be between leader and warrior (parent and child), especially during perilous times

IF this is exressing a "ad" separation with "sadness" then think @yacoub1993 what does it feel like when separating , it feels stressful , sadness , serious .. so following what you read .. dire in this passage is expressing sadness of a "serious" separation between a leader and warrior so therefore your answer is correctly checked B :)
very serious
yes , that is the correct answer , cause lets say .. "sam parents are getting a divorce" "there's a huge storm coming" those are very serious things that can/could happen so B is correct for sure! :)
