Why is there no god

OpenStudy (miss.rose):

Why do you think there is no god?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't believe In such a Deity because everything most of the stories you hear/ read In the bible have and can be explained by science.

OpenStudy (miss.rose):

Yes, that may be so. But what makes you think the scientist aren't lying? I believe in God.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Understandable. Most of the science behind religious events that occurred have been researched and tested (and to some extent) scientists shared their discoveries. I'm not telling you to abandon your beliefs that there isn't a higher power. Its just a HUGE debatable topic that's been around since the dawn of time.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

God is not a real living being. More of an idea that you should grasp on to like motivation to the right thing because it is the right thing to do not because itll benefit you.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I believe He's a real living being. ._.

OpenStudy (glitterychan):

Believe what you want, but please don't put someone down for their beliefs !

The nature of the proposed Abrahamic religions (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam) means it is not possible to prove, nor disprove the existence of said god. This god is said to be omnipotent, meaning it would be within the power of this god to completely hide the beings existence if desired.

@miss.rose As a scientist I feel compelled to point out that being a scientist and believing in a deity are not mutually exclusive. Evolution Theory and believing in a deity are not mutually exclusive. I don't like that your statement implies that all scientists do not believe in any deity or are lying about things to cause people to not believe in any deity. I am personally a strong agnostic on the view of any deity. FYI, agnosticism is a philosophy rather than a religion. Basically, it means that absent evidence we make no statements about something. As a strong agnostic I state that it is impossible to disprove or prove a deity's existence and so I make no statements about this. Finally, if you want to merge Evolution Theory and a Abrahamic god, recall that many biblical scholars point out beliefs held that "god's time is not our time" and 7 days for god may not be 7 days for us. Also, given the nature of the Abrahamic god, said god could create the universe and stepped back, knowing exactly how everything would turn out and how through the mechanisms we describe in Evolutionary Theory, all life would eventually evolve. There you are. A merger, if you like, of Evolutionary Theory and Abrahamic god's involvement in life.

OpenStudy (hectoroftroy):

Thank you Mr. Doldum, for pointing out that religion and science are not mutually exclusive. I am also a molecular biologist and an agnostic. But one of my best friends, far and away smarter than I am and far and away a better molecular biologist than I, believes in God. When he and I talk about it, he says, "But who created the Wonder we all study?" For him, studying biology is better understanding how God created the world. Neither his perspective nor my perspective is right or wrong - they're equal, and informative, and I respect how he goes at it.

OpenStudy (miss.rose):

@mrdoldum I understand that. But what about this? The dinosaurs they went extinct right? Well, there has been evidence that there were other living things at that time, why did these other animals not go extinct with them? And I get that as a scientist that you believe these things. But what about the things you can't explain? Do you believe they just happened? What about animals? They can't magically appear to look like the animals that we see and love today, right? But that is just your opinion. Do you think I can give you a website that explains what I believe and why? I think you should find it very interesting.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@miss.rose I have a PhD in a biology field. I fully understand Evolution Theory and the various complications. I am also aware of why every single piece of "evidence" I have ever read about how Evolution Theory is wrong is based on faulty understanding of the theory. I don't want to get into any prolonged discussion about this. It is not important to me that you accept the Theory. I only came on here because I wanted to make sure that no one tried to use Evolutionary Theory to disprove god's existence, and no one tried to use god to disprove Evolutionary Theory.
