OpenStudy (sambot):

Two sides of a triangle measure 15cm and 21cm. Which of the following could be the measure of the third side? A. 4 cm B. 5 cm C. 6 cm D. 7 cm I WILL FAN AND MEDAL

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a and b

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

with these details every 4 choices can being right

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

Basically if you have 2 sides of a triangle, the minimum distance of the third side must be at least 6 cm. (21cm - 15 cm = 6cm) If the third side equals 6 cm then the 3 lines would just overlap so I'd so the only answer is D And there's a triangle tester here: http://www.1728.org/trianinq.htm

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Must be less than: 15 + 21 Must be greater than 21 - 15 You tell me why.

OpenStudy (amity):

Answer is d.,,,,sum of any two sides must be greater the third remaining

OpenStudy (sambot):

i dont understand

OpenStudy (amity):

Answer is d.,,,,sum of any two sides must be greater the third remaining

OpenStudy (amity):

21+15>7,15+7>21,21+7>15,,,,all the above except d are not fulfiling it,,,property of inequality

OpenStudy (amity):

21+15>7,15+7>21,21+7>15,,,,all the above except d are not fulfiling it,,,property of inequality

OpenStudy (sambot):

okay......................

OpenStudy (mathmale):

I'd strongly recommend that you, Sam, sketch this situation. Draw a line 21 cm long. Draw another line 15 cm long. At first, make the 2nd line parallel to the first. What is the shortest possible that the 3rd side could be? What is the longest that the 3rd side could be? Why? Once again: sketch a 21 cm line first. Play with the 15 cm line, keeping one of its ends always touching one end of the 21 cm line.

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Much of what the others have suggested will become clearer if you'd sketch this situation.

OpenStudy (sambot):

well i cant because it is a question and it has no picture attached to it..

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

Basically when you know two sides The third side must be less than the sum of the other 2 sides. The third side must be longer than the difference of the other 2 sides.

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Sam, just grab a real piece of paper and a real pencil and start drawing. I didn't say a picture was attached; rather, I'm asking you to create your own picture. See what wolf and tkhunny have advised.

OpenStudy (sambot):

thanks for evreyones help...but i have to go..im really sorry!!!!!!! :(

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

Well here's a picture
