Math check!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The table below shows the squares of different numbers: Number (x) 2 −2 3 −3 Square of the number (y) 4 4 9 9

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

hint: when I say \( y\) is a function of \(x\), I mean that \(y\) is the dependent variable, since its values depend on the values of \(x\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

furthermore, for one value of \(x\), the function \(y=x^2\) gives one and \(only\) one values of \(y\). That is why the relation represented by the table is a \(function\)

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

oops.. value* of \(y\)...

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

for Part B, you are right!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, thank you!

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

Part A: Does the table represent y as a function of x? Justify your answer. Answer: Yes the table represents Y as a function of X. Why? Because as it is known. Y can be a independent for any value of X and Y. Part B: The total cost f(x), in dollars, for renting a rowboat for x hours is shown below: f(x) = 20 + 3x What is the value of f(150), and what does f(150) represent? Answer: The value is, f(150) = 20 + 3(150) which equals 450. Then, f(150) = 20+ 450 which then equals 470. And f(150), represents what would be the cost in renting the boat for 150 hours.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, it does. Because y= f(x) = x^2 and the value of y changes corresponding to the value of x. This is correct right?

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

I gotta go, tag me when I come back online.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay :)

I'm not sure exactly what part of the question you need to be checked, but it looks fine.
