OpenStudy (pucusana):

please help, 1. A pair of congruent angles is described as follows. The measure of one angle is 20 more than twice a number, and the other angle is 68 less than 4 times the same number. What is the size of the two angles? a. Define the variable: (1 point) b. Find an expression for the first and second angle. (1 points) c. Write the equation that represents this situation. (2 points) d. Solve for x. (2 points) e. Answer in complete sentence: (1 points)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well what are you solving for in this situation? That's the variable

OpenStudy (pucusana):

thanks

OpenStudy (pucusana):

now i need help with the other ones

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok So let's say x is the angle So 2 times x plus 20 is the expression for the 1st angle And 68 less than 4 times x is the expression for the other angle What would be the mathematical representation of those expressions?

OpenStudy (pucusana):

x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well yes but how would you write "20 more than 2 times x)

OpenStudy (pucusana):

2(x+10)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah That's correct but just a bit unnecessary to have the two on the outside Just distribute making it 2x+20

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Now do the same thing using the "68 less than 4 times x)

OpenStudy (pucusana):

-4x+60?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Umm no Where did you get 60 from when it says 68 Also try switching your positives and negatives around

OpenStudy (pucusana):

4x+68?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Close Less than means you are subtracting

OpenStudy (pucusana):

4x-68?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yup 4x-68 and 2x+20 are the answer to B

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For C all you have to do is set them equal to each other because they are cocngruent

OpenStudy (pucusana):

what about c and d?

OpenStudy (pucusana):

and d?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well solve for x Isolate it from the rest and that is your answer as to what the side equals
