OpenStudy (anguyennn):

Is diabetes and high blood pressure the same thing? if not, what is the difference between them? Please explain!! I am very confused...

OpenStudy (medicaldoctor):

Diabetes is a metabolic disease in which the body’s inability to produce any or enough insulin causes elevated levels of glucose in the blood.

OpenStudy (medicaldoctor):

Blood pressure is the force of blood pushing against the walls of the arteries as the heart pumps blood. High blood pressure, sometimes called hypertension, happens when this force is too high.

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Diabetes is basically a condition in which the blood glucose level is elevated and the patient experiences thirst frequently. Now this rise in blood glucose level can be due to two reason 1) Pancreas is not producing insulin in enough quantity (Type-I diabetes melliatus) 2) Insulin secretion is normal but cells due to some reason are unable to utilize it (Diabetes Melliatus Type-II). There is one more form of diabetes, it's actually more of a complication of diabetes melliatus known as Diabetes Insipidus in which the hormone ADH is not secreted in required quantity which leads to excretion of dilute urine (polyuria) leading to dehydration and frequent thirst (polydipsia).

OpenStudy (abhisar):

You may find the term high blood pressure and diabetes together frequently since these are often found together in patients.
