Timmy created a function table using the equation y = 4x. Which table is correct? A. X Y 2 6 4 10 8 12 10 14 12 16 B. X Y 2 7 4 11 8 13 10 15 12 17 C. X Y 2 8 4 16 8 32 10 40 12 48 D. X Y 2 6 4 12 8 24 10 30 12 36

I think between A D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but probably wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For A,D --> 2*4 = ?? For B --> 2*4 = ??, We don't have to do to many calculations to narrow it down.

OpenStudy (snowsurf):

Take a few x values from each table and plug them into the equation y=4x and see what you get for y.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I thought I knew this but not sure now

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Look at A, if x=2, what does Timmy's function say y is equal to? f(2) = ??, and is this value equal to 6?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y=4(x) ----> so if x = 2 ---- > y=4(2)=8.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And 8 isn't 6.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would A be the answer

OpenStudy (snowsurf):

No not A. For example if x=5 and your equation is y=4x then you will do y = 4(5) , y=20. So what you need to do take least 1 x value from each table and do what I just did in the example. If the y values match in one of the tables based on x values then can figure which table will match the result from this equation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

C

OpenStudy (snowsurf):

That is correct.

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

yes, C is correct, because for each x value in the table, the y value is 4 times the x value.

cool thanks
