OpenStudy (prominer10000):

The number of miles driven is proportional to the gallons of gasoline used. The graph shows this relationship. What is the unit rate for miles driven per gallon? https://static.k12.com/calms_media/media/1557000_1557500/1557381/1/da9734f28a581ce50cecff9100786333d06bd25c/MS_IMB-1401029-190410.jpg I'm thinking 7 again.

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Unit Rate. The unit is "1 gallon" 38 miles on 4 gallons. 19 miles on 2 gallons. ??

OpenStudy (prominer10000):

So 7 miles on 1 gallon?

OpenStudy (prominer10000):

Δy/Δx=(35-7)/(5-1)=28/4=7 ?

563blackghost (563blackghost):

To find the unit rate you can divide... \(\Large{38 \div4 = miles~per~gallon}\)

OpenStudy (prominer10000):

9.5?

563blackghost (563blackghost):

Correct ^^ So the ratio would be \(\Large\color{red}{1:9.5}\)

563blackghost (563blackghost):

Or it can be....\(\Large\color{red}{1:9\frac{ 1 }{ 2 }}\)

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

=(35-7)/(5-1)= Where did ANY of these numbers come from?

OpenStudy (prominer10000):

^^ I was subtracting to find the ratio. But tkhunny, do you think blackghost is right?

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Subtracting what? There are no such values on your chart. Yes, blackghost is right. Take my little test one more step and you will see the same result.

OpenStudy (prominer10000):

So what number would I put in the box? 9:5 ?

563blackghost (563blackghost):

Incorrect. I put up on how the ratio would look.... \(\Large\color{red}{1:9.5}\) or \(\Large\color{red}{1:9\frac{ 1 }{ 2 }}\)...

OpenStudy (prominer10000):

It's not letting me put that in the box http://imgur.com/DIPbc7Q

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Had you written \(\dfrac{38-0}{4-0}\), I would not be asking questions. Are we looking at the same chart?

OpenStudy (prominer10000):

Then it says What is the unit rate for miles driven per gallon? Then there's a box that I have to fill in and after the box it says mi/gal.

OpenStudy (prominer10000):

Screenshot of the question: http://imgur.com/DIPbc7Q

563blackghost (563blackghost):

Oooo then just put \(\Large\color{red}{9.5}\) since it says mi/gal that means miles per gallon...

OpenStudy (prominer10000):

Oh ok. Thanks! But I'm not sure who to upvote. ;-; Both of you helped.

563blackghost (563blackghost):

Choose who you think gave the best explanation ^^ byeeee....
