What is the coefficient of the variable in the expression 2 − 5x − 4 + 8? −5 −4 2 8
what does x=
-5
Thank you again :P
ok wait yeah -5 i got mixed up sorry
It's okay! I fanned you <3
thanks how old r u
im 15
This is an expression, not an equation...
Code you arenʻt looking for x here, just the coefficient.
A coefficient is a number that is in front of a variable...in this case.... x :)
x is the variable, and -5 is in front of it. So that is your answer
yes i know i got mixed up
@Tal_Tal if we had 3 + x What would the coefficient be?
3
|dw:1455127113629:dw| you have to remember that in front of every variable, is an invisible 1. It multiplies itself by x. The coefficient would be 1
Here is an easier one. If we have.... 2x + 3 What would the coefficient be?
2?
Yes! Correct :)
What about... 5 - x?
1?
Close! But itʻs a -1 Always remember to look at the signs. There is a negative sign that comes right before the x. This applies itself to the (1) that is multiplying by x.
One last one. What is the coefficient? 8 + 3 - 0.5x
Take your time on this, try read through what we just went over :)
0.5? or 1?
Mhm, itʻs not 1. Itʻs -0.5. \[(-1)(0.5)(1)\] The negative sign, or minus sign, is basically a -1 in this case...being multiplied by 0.5 and the 1 by the x. Once you finish multiplying, you get -0.5
Try read this over if you ever have any trouble
Iʻm sure youʻll get it :)
Thank you! I have a few more questions can you help me with them (I'll close this one)
