Find the amplitude y = -5 sin 1/2x

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

pffft... is that hmmm come on now, the amplitude is right in front of your nose

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Seriously, though, just read the number off the front. Ignore the sign.

OpenStudy (xmissalycatx):

I hope you do realize that the amplitude is in the equation already.

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

\(\large y=-{\color{blue}{ 5}}sin\left( \frac{1}{2}x \right)\qquad {\color{blue}{ amplitude}}\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I didn't know if it was -5 or 5... Thank you guys

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

the amplitude is, the absolute value of whatever that number in fron is so in this case | -5 | = 5

OpenStudy (xmissalycatx):

Amplitude cannot be negative. It is just a representation of how far from the midline it is..
