How to do peacewise function

OpenStudy (matlee):

OpenStudy (matlee):

I know the answer althoguh i dont know the steps to get there

Directrix (directrix):

What did you get for the answer? @matlee

OpenStudy (matlee):

-2

OpenStudy (matlee):

i just noticed all i had to do is plug 2 into x?

OpenStudy (matlee):

was that it

Directrix (directrix):

If f(x) = -5 when x = 2, then what is the limit of f(x) as x approaches 2.

OpenStudy (matlee):

For some reason i dont understand the term as x approaches 2

OpenStudy (matlee):

so wait when i enter 2 into x i get -2 is that how im suppose to do it but i dont know how to get -5

Directrix (directrix):

That is the x-->2 underneath lim at the beginning of the problem.

OpenStudy (matlee):

Oh ok thank you, but does it mean like since it approaches 2 it also passes (1) so the answer to X could also be 1?

Directrix (directrix):

Look at the problem. f(x) = - x^2 + 2 given that x is NOT equal to 2. So, you cannot put 2 in there and crank out -2 as a point of graph of f(x) = - x^2 + 2 .

Directrix (directrix):

The second piece of the definition of f(x) tells you that when x = 2, then f(2) equals what?

OpenStudy (matlee):

5

OpenStudy (matlee):

-5

OpenStudy (matlee):

but i put 2 in there and got -2
