Using the graph below, calculate the average rate of change for f(x) from x = 2 to x = 6.

OpenStudy (gabylovesyou):

OpenStudy (aravindg):

Can you find the corresponding values of y for these 2 points?

OpenStudy (gabylovesyou):

when x = 2, y = 2 when x = 6, y = 6

OpenStudy (aravindg):

Average rate of change=(yfinal-yinitial)/(xfinal-xinitial)

OpenStudy (aravindg):

Plug in and get your answer.

OpenStudy (gabylovesyou):

x = 1 ?

OpenStudy (aravindg):

xfinal=6 xinitial=2 Similarly for y.

OpenStudy (gabylovesyou):

6 - 2 = 4 / 6 - 2 = 4 4/4 1

OpenStudy (aravindg):

Yeah the average rate ie slope is 1. x=1 is not the right way to say that.

OpenStudy (gabylovesyou):

thats how my choices come out ;/

OpenStudy (aravindg):

Maybe they meant average rate.

OpenStudy (gabylovesyou):

yea
