OpenStudy (savannah_noelle):

Can someone please help me solve this one problem? I'll definitely give a medal. Solve the system for y=8x-1 and 2x-16y=3

OpenStudy (savannah_noelle):

@ganeshie8 @dan815

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Are you thinking of using substitution?

OpenStudy (savannah_noelle):

Yes the substitution method is fine, but how do I do that for this problem?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You know what y equals, so way not substitute that into the second equation?

563blackghost (563blackghost):

Since you know that \(\Large{y=8x-1}\) We can substitue it for the other equation... \(\Large\color{purple}{2x-16(8x-1)=3}\)...You then simplify to get x...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[2x-16(8x-1)=3\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then expand

OpenStudy (savannah_noelle):

so would it be -126x=48?..

OpenStudy (savannah_noelle):

Or is that wrong.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Shuffle the equation little bit 8x - y = 1, 2x - 16y = 3 multil|dw:1455249579686:dw| |dw:1455249682801:dw| |dw:1455249761525:dw| Similary use this value to solve for x by putting in first equation.
