Basically how I would answer this is it is asking for how much would be in there after 3 years. Take 4% of the 4,000 for year one which would be 160$. You add that 160 to the 4,000 and it would make it 4,160. Then for year 2, you take 4% of the 4,160 which would be 166$ Add that to the 4,160 which would make it 4.326$. Then for the final year you would just take 4% of the 4,326$ which would be 173$ and add that to the 4,326 to get 4,499$ total. :)

There is an equation that you could use and it's on the top of my head. When I figure it out I'll make sure to post it. It will simplify the steps a lot, but it's basically doing the same thing.
