@igreen

OpenStudy (imsleeziboii):

I need your help!

OpenStudy (imsleeziboii):

Solve the inequality, and then graph its solution: \[5+2x-2\le12+8x-3x\]

OpenStudy (imsleeziboii):

@iGreen

OpenStudy (igreen):

Combine like terms on the right side, what do you get?

OpenStudy (igreen):

Oh, and on the left side also.

OpenStudy (igreen):

Can you do that?

OpenStudy (imsleeziboii):

Sorry i was distracted

OpenStudy (imsleeziboii):

can you explain to me how i can combine like terms? never understood that.

OpenStudy (igreen):

Like terms are terms that have the same variable. like 2y + 3y, you can combine these to get 5y. However, you can't combine things such as 2 + 5x, 4x + 8y, etc.

OpenStudy (igreen):

So on the left we have: 5 - 2 and on the right: 8x - 3x

OpenStudy (imsleeziboii):

Okay

OpenStudy (igreen):

Can you simplify those?

OpenStudy (imsleeziboii):

Yes

OpenStudy (imsleeziboii):

3 on the left and 5x on the right

OpenStudy (igreen):

Yep, so we have: \(\sf 2x + 3 \le 12 + 5x\) Now subtract 2x to both sides.

OpenStudy (imsleeziboii):

so \[3\le12+3x\]
