In your hands, my fellow citizens, more than in mine, will rest the final success or failure of our course. Since this country was founded, each generation of Americans has been summoned to give testimony to its national loyalty. The graves of young Americans who answered the call to service surround the globe. Now the trumpet summons us again-not as a call to bear arms, though arms we need; not as a call to battle, though embattled we are-but a call to bear the burden of a long twilight struggle, year in and year out, "rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation"-a struggle against the common enemies of man: tyranny, poverty, disease, and war itself. Can we forge against these enemies a grand and global alliance, North and South, East and West, that can assure a more fruitful life for all mankind? Will you join in that historic effort? In the long history of the world, only a few generations have been granted the role of defending freedom in its hour of maximum danger. I do not shrink from this responsibility-I welcome it. I do not believe that any of us would exchange places with any other people or any other generation. The energy, the faith, the devotion which we bring to this endeavor will light our country and all who serve it-and the glow from that fire can truly light the world. And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you-ask what you can do for your country. My fellow citizens of the world: ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man. Finally, whether you are citizens of America or citizens of the world, ask of us the same high standards of strength and sacrifice which we ask of you. With a good conscience our only sure reward, with history the final judge of our deeds, let us go forth to lead the land we love, asking His blessing and His help, but knowing that here on earth God's work must truly be our own. Which sentence from the text best illustrates the theme of sacrifice? (4 points) "Can we forge against these enemies a grand and global alliance, North and South, East and West, that can assure a more fruitful life for all mankind?" "I do not believe that any of us would exchange places with any other people or any other generation." "The energy, the faith, the devotion which we bring to this endeavor will light our country and all who serve it-and the glow from that fire can truly light the world." "The graves of young Americans who answered the call to service surround the globe."

Okay. A and C are not the right answers. Your options will be B or D.

The girl was one of those pretty and charming young creatures who sometimes are born, as if by a slip of fate, into a family of clerks. She had no dowry, no expectations, no way of being known, understood, loved, married by any rich and distinguished man; so she let herself be married to a little clerk of the Ministry of Public Instruction." Based on this excerpt, what conflict do you expect the narrator to focus on? (4 points) The difference between the job the husband has and the job she wants him to have. The difference between the kind of lifestyle the girl was accustomed to and the one she has now. The difference between what the girl wants to have and what the clerk can provide. The difference between the backgrounds and upbringing of the girl and the clerk.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hey we weren't done with that question.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

B?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Austin1617

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Its not going to be B. That is something a coward would say. B is saying that no one would give there life. It is going to be D because it is talking about them answering the call to help the world and how they lost there lives defending sand fighting for what they wanted. "The graves of young Americans who answered the call to service surround the globe." The young Americans sacrificed their lives fighting in behalf of the United States of America.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OK thank u

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A and B get cancelled out since they don't focus on much what the narrator was expecting. So C or D will be your choices for this question.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@caitycat

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its C

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay. If you were the owner of place or manager. You hired this girl to be your clerk. Would you focus on the between what the girl wants to have and what the clerk can provide or focus on the backgrounds and upbringing of the girl and the clerk? @caitycat

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I would focus on D more than C.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thank u
