How do I figure out the graph for f(x + 1) - 2?

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

@phi

OpenStudy (phi):

I assume they show f(x) if you subtract -2 from f(x), the new curve is lower by 2 steps the hard part is f(x+1) but I remember this by saying f(0) is the old graph and f(x+1) is f(0) when x is -1 (because when x is -1, we get -1+1 = 0) so f(0) in the old graph "moves" to -1 which is 1 to the left Or if you can remember it, f(x+1) moves sideways in the opposite direction of +1 i.e. it moves left 1 step

OpenStudy (phi):

so f(x+1)-2 is f(x) shifted down 2 and to the left 1

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

Okay got it!
