Help..

OpenStudy (photon336):

the idea behind this is using the distributive property and combining like terms do you know how to do this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i just get confused doing it

OpenStudy (photon336):

alright \[3x+5(-4x+12)-(x-3)\] you see the 5(-4x+12) we need to use the distributive property meaning we multiply 5 by everything in the ( ) what do you think the result for this part of the problem would be?

OpenStudy (photon336):

@Tears1213 we'll do it step by step

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (photon336):

so from what I said above, how would you solve the part I indicated?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea 40x

OpenStudy (photon336):

3x+ 5(-4x+12) okay. so see that 5 there and the ( ) ? we can multiply that by everything in the ( ) 5*(-4x)+5*12 = -20x+60 Now all you need to do is combine like terms. 3x-20x+60-(x-3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (photon336):

do you get how I got that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

kinda

OpenStudy (photon336):

what don't you understand?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well i did 3x-20x and got 18x and now im having trouble with the rest

OpenStudy (photon336):

@Tears1213 check your answers you may not have to simplify it anymore

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok
