can someone please help me fix my math problem? please? I will fan and give a medal!! Question~ graph the following inequalities. x + y => -4 My steps~Steps ~ Replace the inequality sign with an = sign and graph the line. x + y > -4 Graph the intercepts: (-4, 0) & (0, -5), and draw the line. Using the original inequality, check the inequality sign. x + y > -4 means a Sold line. Pick a point on either side of the line. Choose (0, 0) since it is NOT on the line. Substitute into x + y > -4 (0)+(0)> -4 0> -4 This is true

OpenStudy (abbycross167):

what my teacher said was wrong~ Did you hit the wrong key here: Graph the intercepts: (-5, 0) & (0, -4)

OpenStudy (abbycross167):

@mathwizzard3 could you try to help me?

OpenStudy (mathwizzard3):

Do you think you could ask your teacher?

OpenStudy (mathwizzard3):

Where did you get (-4, 0) & (0, -5) from?

OpenStudy (abbycross167):

those are the points that I graphed

OpenStudy (mathwizzard3):

Okay, why don't we just work this out together and see what happens

OpenStudy (mathwizzard3):

Wait no let me just explain to make it faster

OpenStudy (mathwizzard3):

XD sorry

OpenStudy (mathwizzard3):

Lets plug in these two points you decided on!

OpenStudy (mathwizzard3):

So we will plug in the x coordinate for x and the y coordinate for y \[-4 + 0\ge-4\]

OpenStudy (mathwizzard3):

It would be true because 0 + -4 = -4 so -4=-4 so that much is correct

OpenStudy (mathwizzard3):

Now lets plug in the next points\[0 + -5\ge-4\]

OpenStudy (mathwizzard3):

Lets see if this is correct. Is -5 equal to -4?

OpenStudy (mathwizzard3):

@abbycross167

OpenStudy (abbycross167):

no sir/ma'am

OpenStudy (mathwizzard3):

sir :P

OpenStudy (mathwizzard3):

Alright, is -5 > -4

OpenStudy (abbycross167):

no sir

OpenStudy (mathwizzard3):

That is where you messed up, those points (0, -5). I suppose you should change those to something like (0, -3).

OpenStudy (mathwizzard3):

Do you understand?

OpenStudy (abbycross167):

so I just have to change -5 to -3?

OpenStudy (mathwizzard3):

Something like that it just has to be plugged into the equation and be true.

OpenStudy (abbycross167):

oh okay, is that all?

OpenStudy (mathwizzard3):

I haven't read it all, did your teacher say there was anything else wrong?

OpenStudy (mathwizzard3):

OpenStudy (mathwizzard3):

I put that in the wrong order but say it is equal to or greater then not just greater than :)

OpenStudy (mathwizzard3):

I would appreciate a medal :P It's fine if you don't give me one

OpenStudy (abbycross167):

I have a question... all of the > signs in the steps would all of them be =>?

OpenStudy (mathwizzard3):

I'm so sorry....but yes they would :)
