Ok So you remember SOHCAHTOA right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes I do

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It gives you the HYPOTENUSE because it is across from the right angle What side is 9, opposite or adjacent?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Because it gives you the hypotenuse it can't be tan

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Adjacent?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Right So which trig function are you using? Sin or cos?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

which is cos... I got sin the first time which confused me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yep So you now have\[\cos 61=\frac{ 9 }{ x }\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How could you solve this? MAke sure your calculator is in DEGREE mode NOT RADIAN when you do cos(61)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ahhh that must be where i went wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you tell me your final answer I could check it if you want :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

since you are already on a computer you can use this http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=9%2Fcos%2861%29

OpenStudy (anonymous):
