Which method is not used to find the solution of a system of linear equations. a. guess and check b. graphing c. substitution d. matrices

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think its D because you should guess and check and you can solve by substitution and you can graph it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay. Thank you so much!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Let's not jump at answers without checking out their verity! I completely disagree with "D." Matrices are a wonderful tool for solving systems of linear equations. Please back up any statements ("I think it's D") with facts, please.

To provide more information, this is the section we are supposed to use to find answers. When it comes to solving word problems, there are many strategies and generally more than one way of arriving at the correct solution. As problems become more challenging, some strategies, such as guess and test, are not as practical. While some problems can be solved using one equation, a system of equations may be easier.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the answer is in that question it would be the guess and check

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I disagree with that answer. It's never a good idea to just guess and check in math problems. xD You can use graphing to find the intersection of the system of equations (solution). You can use substitution to solve the system of equations and find the point that intersects both equations. Lastly, just like @mathmale stated, matrices are wonderful tools for solving systems of equations. :)

OpenStudy (mathmale):

A good discussion! How refreshing!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There we go, @heacain. That's better. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you all so much!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry my math teacher always tells me its a good idea to guess and check

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Guess and check would actually help in some, but definitely not all, situations. It's not commonly used in solving systems of linear equations, however, so is the poorest choice of the four choices given.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah thats true
