Can someone help me :D

OpenStudy (alivejeremy):

http://prntscr.com/a90dul

OpenStudy (alivejeremy):

@Serenity74

OpenStudy (alivejeremy):

Omg this lag

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Hello, Jeremy, Please convert 7 3/4 dollars to 7 dollars and some cents. What is 3/4 of $1.00?

rishavraj (rishavraj):

\[7\frac{ 3 }{ 4 } = \frac{ 31 }{ 4 }\]

OpenStudy (mathmale):

1/2 of $1.00 is 50 cents. 1/4 of $1.00 is 25 cents. What is 3/4 of $1.00?

OpenStudy (alivejeremy):

3/4 of 1.000

OpenStudy (alivejeremy):

1.00*

OpenStudy (alivejeremy):

0.75

OpenStudy (alivejeremy):

\[0.75 \]

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Good. Now re-write "7 3/4 dollars" as $7.__ ." Of course you've seen this before: 7 dollars and how many cents?

OpenStudy (alivejeremy):

7.75

OpenStudy (alivejeremy):

??

OpenStudy (alivejeremy):

So the answer would be B

OpenStudy (alivejeremy):

@Nnesha

OpenStudy (kayders1997):

@mathmale is right, we wanted to see how much money the person spent for lunch and now were trying to see how much money this person has left so were going to subtract the two amounts to get the answer

OpenStudy (kayders1997):

@alivejeremy yes the answer is B

OpenStudy (alivejeremy):

Yeah got it right already

OpenStudy (kayders1997):

Okay

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Now you have two dollar amounts with the number of cents in each following the decimal point: $25.63 and $7.75. Since they're expressed in the same terms, we can now readily subtract $7.75 from $25.63. Do so. that's your answer. I don't see any advantage in changing 7 3/4 dollars into 31/4 dollars.
