Want to know the best way to study? Try this, it is absolutely a MUST. **Firm believer that this is one of the best ways to take notes and memory retention**
1) What is Anki? ---Thinks of it like Quizlet or flash cards, however Anki has an algorithm in the software that brings back information based on if you are good/bad with the material. I can not stress how useful this is, especially if you are taking the Mcat (Like me). Why should you try this? -- 1) ITS FREE. OMFG FREEE? DID YOU SAY FREE? -- Yes, free so give it a try. 2) Bad handwriting with your notes/Organization? -- This is seriously one of my biggest problems. I have the worst handwriting. I bet half of you can write better using your feet. 3) Spaced repetition -------------------Science behind it-----------------
Visit this link for information about Spaced repeition and the science/background/evidence for this Here: http://www.gwern.net/Spaced%20repetition How to use Anki? Use this youtube video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5e-UN-cxFCU
This is seriously one of the best ways to study, I can not believe I didn't use this before. Amazing. Let me know how the experience goes for you guys, and questions about it. I use the "cloze" "deck" for Anki, this is the best way I like the information to be viewed. For Cloze tutorial, and how to use it, use this link, this is VERY HELPFUL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRY1rYxd9EM Enjoy, let me know anything that other people should notice or use. And have fun Studying!
@alphadxg Post's like these are pretty rare in the OpenStudy Feedback forum. Honestly, I've seen a lot of spam and useless nonsense happen in this section. So I'm glad to see you putting up something useful for others. :) If I think of anything that is of important use or great in relation to studying or schoolwork I shall put it here. But thank you for doing something like this. We all appreciate that. ^_^
Well done :-) Nice tips +1
@alphadxg those are the best solutions i've heard of <3
Wow, great tips :D Next time post this here ;D http://openstudy.com/study#/groups/Academic%20Advice

ill probably give this a try ty
^
those are good tips i will use them
@alphadxg we need more posts like this on OS feedback, thank you for sharing.
Yeah, I use it since last 5 years!!! Infact every one in my med school uses it :D Space repetition and pomodoro, these are two techniques I'll suggest everyone to use for more efficient study.
How much time on average does this save you @Abhisar
This think saves a lot. Cz in med school we have to memorize a gazillion of things and it's ok to remember things using normal plain flash cards but as days passes you start forgetting most of them. That's when space repetition comes into play. The idea is to recall things just when your brain is about to forget it. Spacial repetition softwares helps in designing a revision plan so that you would only have to recall things you are actually forgetting and not the whole chapter or topic. There are better softwares than Anki out there but anki is free.
*think = thing
Interesting, yeah After a while making flash cards becomes too tedious. and time consuming
I'm definitely going to give this a shot
pomodoro is a good way to keep your brain focused by giving it short breaks after definite intervals. Usually if you study for long hours without breaks your concentration will weaken and your brain starts wandering at some places else :D
Yes, everyone who needs to memorize a lot should give a shot to spacial repetition. Now I am not endorsing any particular software but they do assist. You can do this without softwares too.
Tips on fleek! Great job! :) @alphadxg
