Pre-cal 12 Question Please show me how to get those answers.

OpenStudy (korosh23):

OpenStudy (abdullahm):

Your answer is correct.

OpenStudy (raffle_snaffle):

I agree.

OpenStudy (korosh23):

No please show me how to get the answer.

OpenStudy (abdullahm):

The work is in the image itself.

OpenStudy (abdullahm):

You need to know that sin pi/4 = sqrt2/2 sin 3pi/4 = sqrt2/2 sqrt 9pi/4 = sqrt2/2 sqrt 11pi/4 = sqrt2/2 You can easily figure this out if you imagine the unit circle.

OpenStudy (korosh23):

This is not clear for me. Please show it algebrically

OpenStudy (korosh23):

Please solve algebrically

OpenStudy (abdullahm):

I don't know what you mean. There is barely any algebra in the question. The only algebra there is is diving both sides by sqrt2. "pi/4 is 45 degrees. If you draw a 45-45-90 degree triangle, the sides opposite the 45 degree angles are 1 unit long each, and the side opposite the 90 degree angle is sqrt(2) units long. Therefore, the sine of 45 is 1/(sqrt(2)), which is equal to sqrt(2)/2 (they don't like to have sqrts in the denominator)." https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20081108200017AAgsZzM

OpenStudy (korosh23):

I know but in the picture, there are two answers, one for x and one for 2x which I do not understand why

OpenStudy (abdullahm):

Oh, they first found all the angles that could work. And that meant 2x = all those four angles And we needed to find x, so we divided by 2, and got pi/8, and the rest of the angles.

OpenStudy (abdullahm):

The unit circle will show you that there are 4 angles at which you can get six = sqrt2/2 http://i.stack.imgur.com/r8uHr.gif

OpenStudy (abdullahm):

sin x = sqrt2/2**

OpenStudy (korosh23):

Ok that is helpful
