Please help. Pre Calc! Find the first six terms of the sequence. a1 = -8, an = 5 • an-1 -8, -40, -200, -1000, -5000, -25,000 -8, -40, -35, -30, -25, -20 0, 5, -40, -35, -30, -25 -40, -200, -1000, -5000, -25,000, -125,000

OpenStudy (phi):

a1 = -8 that tells you the first term. so you can cross off two of your choices, because they don't start with -8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay! How do i find the next term?

OpenStudy (phi):

\[a_n = 5 \cdot a_{n-1} \] that is the rule. to find the "nth term" you multiply 5 times the (n-1)th term in other words, to get the next term, multiply by 5 each term is 5 times the one just before it.

So I just multiply -5 and so on?

OpenStudy (phi):

the rule has just 5 (not -5)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-8, -40, -200, -1000, -5000, -25,000 ?

OpenStudy (phi):

yes. you start with -8 (they have to give you a start) then to get the next number, multiply by 5. you get 5*-8 = -40 then 5*-40= -200 and so on
