true or false an expression must have a monomial of degree 1 or higher to be a polynomial

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think its true am I right?

OpenStudy (loser66):

Nope, it is false. A monomial is a monomial no matter how its exponent is because MONOmial is a POLYnomial with only 1 term.

OpenStudy (loser66):

x is a monomial x^2 is a monomial x^(10) is a monomial but x+2 is a polynomial (you have 2 terms on it)

OpenStudy (loser66):

they use binomial to indicate the expression has 2 terms on it trinomial for 3 terms and polynomial for more than 3 However, in English, more than 1 is plural, hence 2 terms and up is called polynomial

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

I think you are right @briana983
