I'll medal and fan
Ian makes 7 ½ quarts of fruit punch using 3 different juices. The juices he used are listed. 3 ¼ quarts of blueberry juice 1 1/3 quarts of pineapple juice W quarts of watermelon juice How many quarts of watermelon juice, W, did Ian use to make the fruit punch?
First lay it out mathematically... \[3\frac{ 1 }{ 4 }+1\frac{ 1 }{ 3 }+W=7\frac{ 1 }{ 2 }\] Now turn them all into top heavy fractions... \[\frac{ 13 }{ 4 }+\frac{ 4 }{ 3 }+W=\frac{ 15 }{ 2 }\] Before we can add or take away we need the same denominator, 12 seems to be the lowest common factor...
\[\frac{ 39 }{ 12 }+\frac{ 16 }{ 12 }+W=\frac{ 90 }{ 12 }\] Simplify... \[\frac{ 55 }{ 12 }+W=\frac{ 90 }{ 12 }\] and solve... \[W=\frac{ 90 }{ 12 }-\frac{ 55 }{ 12 }\] \[W=\frac{ 35 }{ 12 } Quarts\]
what do i do can you walk me through it
what the heck r u doing
i need help and i was asking can you walk me through it pina watch it
chill.chill
then dont cruse at me
all i need is help nothing else
heck is a curse word since when?
it is to my 5th grader I don't that to go into her head so she can say it to my kids so please stop thanks
what grade ur in because there are many ways to do this
kk
she is in 5th grade
so basically ur going to add 3 ¼ & 1 1/3 u would get 4 7/12. Subtract 4 7/12 from 7 ½ u will get 2 11/12 i believe
Okay she is doing a portfolio so can you take it step by step please
okay how that was step by step
no how did you get 12 things like that
okay i can try
you got the medal|dw:1457423774807:dw|
okay so u have 3 1/4 u multiply the denominator which is the 4 by the whole number which is 3 so now u have 12 but then u add 1 now u have 13/4
The other side 1 1/3 same thing so 1*3 = 3 + 1 = 4 so now u have 3/4
whats next
then u cross multiply |dw:1457380906503:dw|
