Christa went shopping for back-to-school clothes. Before the tax was added on, her total was $176. If the sales tax is 6%, what was the total amount she paid? A) $10.56 B) $105.60 C) $126.56 D) $186.56

OpenStudy (kdr1308):

First, can you find the tax for me?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How do you change 6 percent to a decimal?

OpenStudy (kdr1308):

0.06

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you know how to find a percentage of a number 123?

OpenStudy (misssmartiez):

We did this. Turn 6% into a decimal, (6 / 100), which is 0.06, then _ that to 176. Find the process.

OpenStudy (kdr1308):

To find the tax you multiply the 176 by 0.06 to get the tax... then add it to the price to the price before sales tax to get your total cost x = tax c = total cost 176 x 0.06 = x --> x + 176 = c

OpenStudy (misssmartiez):

So, it would be 176 + 10.56 = 186.56 Though, the real total of 176 x 0.06 is 10.74, so, how would that be accurate?

OpenStudy (misssmartiez):

Oh I see what I did.

OpenStudy (kdr1308):

I just read what i wrote.. i messed up I didn't mean to repeat "to the price"

OpenStudy (misssmartiez):

It is 0.06 x 176 = 10.56, though,

OpenStudy (misssmartiez):

I had my item on 'sin' or something which given me 10.74, so that's why it took me long to figure out what you were doing. So I just written it out. Usually, to figure it out we construct the percent into the decimal then multiply to the given item.
