Can someone please show me the steps to this question? Please Evaluate 7 – (3/4)^2
is it 3 over 4 or 3 divide by 4
3/4 (do parenthesis first)
PEMDAS, anyway, is that 3 divided by 4 or 3 over four.
The trick to evaluating this expression properly is to adhere to "order of operations" rules, sometimes refered to as PEMDAS. Any operations within parentheses must be done first, followed by any exponentiation, then multiplication/div and then (last) addition/subtraction. Following these rules, which operation would you tackle first in this given probelm?
It is 3 over 4
with 3 over 4: PEMDAS We do what is given in the (---), which is P in PEMDAS. To make it easier, .75^2
"3 over 4" and "3 divided by 4" are one and the same.
abby?
no, one stands of division and the other a fraction.
THAT is what we require to know.
abby, is it a fraction or an operation, (division?)
It is 3 over 4 so a fraction... I said this earlier when y'all asked for it
There are at least two ways in which to evaluate (3/4)^2: One is to evaluate 3^2 over 4^2. Another would be to convert 3/4 into the fraction 0.75 and take the 2nd power of that. Your choice.
with 3 over 4 (fraction): PEMDAS We do what is given in the (---), which is P in PEMDAS. To make it easier, .75^2 Exponent is next, because that is the E in PEMDAS. So in other words, .75 x .75
@MissSmartiez : Is it possible that you are repeating the same info I've provided regarding this problem? If so, why?
.75* .75=0.5625?
(You may be wondering why I turned it into a decimal, so we could construct it easier, we can change it back ;)) And no, I was wondering if she meant it as a fraction or division, correct!
now, that - 7?
yes, and y ou will find that that's the same as 3^2 over 4^2.
^
Please review PEMDAS (above); what is to be done now, according to PEMDAS?
what do I do with the 7-? 7-0.5625?
Ok, we have completed P and E, and there isn't any M, A, in this problem, so what would it be? Subtraction! correct. 7 minus 0.5625
Now what is that? What do we get when we do 7 - 0.5625.
the answer is 6 and 7/16 or an improper fraction 103/16
6.4375?
stop saying the answer, she asked how to do it.
correct! Would you like to construct that into a fraction, or leave it as that?
fraction... so it'll be 6 7/16? like @scoobydo said?
yes
Yes it would. |dw:1457332429981:dw|
