Can someone please show me the steps to this question? Please Translate “eighty-four less than the product of six and a number x” into an algebraic expression.

563blackghost (563blackghost):

So we have eighty-four less than which means \(\Large{84 < }\).... Now we have the \(\large{product}\) of six and a number x...what does product mean?

OpenStudy (abbycross167):

multiply

563blackghost (563blackghost):

Correct ^^ So we multiply six and a number x.... \(\Huge{6 \times x}\) So our equation would look like \(\Huge \color{red}{84< 6 \times x}\) Do you understand how we came to this answer?

OpenStudy (abbycross167):

@563blackghost Could it also look like this? 6x-84

563blackghost (563blackghost):

Well it said less than which meant < but if it doesnt regard to that then it can be like that yes......

OpenStudy (abbycross167):

okay, thank you for your help!!
