Analyze the excerpt from Lincoln’s speech by answering the following questions in one paragraph: A house divided against itself cannot stand. I believe this government cannot endure permanently half-slave and half-free. I do not expect the Union to be dissolved—I do not expect the house to fall—but I do expect it will cease to be divided. It will become all one thing or all the other. —Abraham Lincoln, Springfield, Illinois, June 16, 1858
-What is Lincoln’s point of view regarding the future of the country? -Which statement from the excerpt shows his point of view? -Explain how the selected quote shows Lincoln’s point of view. -What is an historical idea or event that supports Lincoln’s point of view?
Lincoln believes that the country will not succeed if the debate about slavery continues. Some people believe people should be slaves and some believe people should be free. The statement “I believe this government cannot endure permanently half-slave and half-free. It shows his point of view because he is saying the government wont make it if its permanently half-slave and half-free. SO far i just have that cx I need help with the 4th question

Well, first what do you think? @Imverytired what's the main point of what he's saying in less than a sentence?
That he doesn't believe that the country will do well if we have a "nation divided" therefor he thinks everyone should be equal @Photon336
Wait i think its "Lincoln didn't want war because the nation would divide"
@Photon336
exactly. we know from Lincoln's speech that he does not believe that the nation can be half free half slave, it's either one or the other. Right after Lincoln became president the south seceded from the union because of the issue of slavery. the historical idea that supports this is the civil war.
