alones (alones):

Factor ._.

OpenStudy (kyleighg):

Factor what

alones (alones):

Oh geez 4a62 - 8a - 5

OpenStudy (ashleneperalez):

What

OpenStudy (ashleneperalez):

Oh

alones (alones):

No i mean 4a^2 - 8a - 5 and my ansswer was

ILovePuppiesLol (ilovepuppieslol):

X factor

ILovePuppiesLol (ilovepuppieslol):

great show i like it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Multiply the coefficient of X^2 by the last term

alones (alones):

(2a+1) (2a−5)was my asnwer ac?

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Do you know the ac method of factoring?

alones (alones):

No i think i don't /:

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

To factor a polynomial of the form \(ax^2 + bx + c \) 1. multiply ac together. 2. find two numbers whose product is ac and whose sum is b. 3. break up term bx into two terms using the numbers from step 2. 4. factor by grouping

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

That is the method. Now I will do each step of the method for your problem.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4x^2 -2x + 10x -5 like this

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Factor: 4a^2 - 8a - 5

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

BTW, the first rule of factoring is to always try to factor out a common factor out of all terms. In your case, there is no common factor, so we move on to the ac method.

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

ac = 4(-5) = -20 -10 + 2 = -8; -10(2) = -20 The numbers -10 and 2 work. = 4a^2 - 10a + 2a - 5 = 2a(2a - 5) + 1(2a - 5) =(2a - 5)(2a + 1)

alones (alones):

So that would look like this 4a(a−2)

alones (alones):

Oho okay
