Can anyone simplify this polynomial identity? (a^2 + b^2)^3 = (a^2 – b^2)^3 + (2ab)^3 is the identity; I need to simplify it using something like the distributive property, but am kind of unsure of how to do this (or even if it's possible--I had to write the identity myself...) Any help is much appreciated.

\[\left(a^{2}+b^{2}\right)^{3}\rightarrow\left(a^{2}-b^{2}\right)^{3}+(2ab)^{3}\]This?

@kittiwitti1 Yes! That would be it.

OpenStudy (kittiwitti1):

Hmm. Well... do you know the formulaic process for a normal square? \[\text{ e.g. }(a+b)^{3}\]

Here's a link if you're confused http://www.purplemath.com/modules/specfact2.htm

@kittiwitti1 I'm pretty much new to all of this--I'll check out the link, though, hopefully that will help a bit.

No problem ☺
