OpenStudy (simplymarie_x):

If trapezoid ABCD was reflected over the y-axis, reflected over the x-axis, and rotated 180°, where would point A' lie?

OpenStudy (simplymarie_x):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay! So right now, A is at (1,1) right?

OpenStudy (simplymarie_x):

Yes :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, if we flip it over y axis, where does it end up?

OpenStudy (simplymarie_x):

If you flip it over the y-axis it would end up as (-1,1) right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes. Okay. Now that it's there, flip it over x axis. Where is it now?

OpenStudy (simplymarie_x):

(-1,-1) ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Right, now, do you think you can draw the shape after it's been reflected? It'll make it easier.

OpenStudy (simplymarie_x):

Would it go back to being (1,1) ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No. |dw:1457727749135:dw| After x and y, it's like that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then after rotating, it's like: |dw:1457727846199:dw|

OpenStudy (simplymarie_x):

I thought you'd rotate around in the different quads, not just one quad.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hm.. try both ways?

OpenStudy (simplymarie_x):

Well I'd need a definite answer because it's fill in the blank not multiple choice. I feel like it'd be back to (1, 1) because you times the x coordinate by -1 and then the y coordinate by -1 leaving you with (1, 1) I mean, that's how I was taught when you rotate it by 180 degrees.

OpenStudy (simplymarie_x):

I'll just do (1, 1) Thanks so much for your help :D
