OpenStudy (kirumarkrice):

Define Antecedents? As in Pronouns. I'm not really understanding them. Can anyone simplify it?

OpenStudy (deercult):

Hi friend! The antecedent is what the pronoun is referring to in a sentence! For example: "The man parked his car." 'His' is a pronoun, yes? Do you see what the word is referring to?

OpenStudy (deercult):

'Referring', by the way, basically means that the pronoun is 'talking about' that word!

OpenStudy (deercult):

So, here, 'his' is referring to the noun 'man', yes? So man is the antecedent for that pronoun. Does that make sense?

OpenStudy (kirumarkrice):

I see. Thanks!

OpenStudy (deercult):

No problem!
