Angelo sells sporting goods. He makes a 10% commission on every dollar of sales that he makes. One month Angelo got a commission check for $3100. What were his sales in dollars that month??? I dont understand!

anyone help???

OpenStudy (loser66):

Let A be the amount of dollars he sales, then 10% A = 3100, solve for A

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Loser66's suggestion is perfectly valid. If you're not comfortable with it, you could try writing and solving an equation of proportions. The commission rate is 10%. So, if sales were $1.00, the commission would be 10% of that, or 10 cents, or $0.10 Ratio 1 must equal ratio 2: $0.10 $3100 -------- = --------- $1.00 x

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Are you able to solve this for x? x is the dollar amount of the sales that earned this guy a $3,100 commission.

i'll try!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think it's $13,000

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Mind sharing how you got that? Did you use "cross-multiplication": to solve that equation for x? The correct answer is considerablyl moe than $13,000.

thank you!!!
