There is a 70% chance that your car will get stuck in the snow during the next big snowfall. Given that you are already stuck in the snow with your car, the chance that you will require a tow truck to pull you out is 90%. What is the chance that you will get stuck in the snow with your car and will require a tow truck to pull you out? 29% 63% 78% 66%

OpenStudy (kobeni-chan):

You just need to multiply both percentages together :) convert them to decimal form and multiply, then convert the answer back to a percentage

OpenStudy (anonymous):

.70% x .90% = 63% ???

OpenStudy (faiqraees):

P(Get Stuck And Require A Tow car ) = P(x) \[\large\rm P(x) = Probability~of~Getting~ Stuck * Probability~of~Tow~Car~Used \]\[\large\rm P(x) = 0.7 * 0.9\]

OpenStudy (faiqraees):

And then convert it back into percentage

OpenStudy (kobeni-chan):

You are right @lydiasantos :)

Sounds like "conditional probability" to me. "Given that you are already stuck in the snow with your car, the chance that you will require a tow truck to pull you out is 90%." Have you considered that? Have you tried making up a conditional probability table?
