OpenStudy (iluvsoccer):

Which kind of complement is the underlined word? Turn the soil with the rake. A. indirect object B. direct object C. predicate adjective D. predicate nominative

OpenStudy (iluvsoccer):

B. Let me check my book real quick.

OpenStudy (misssmartiez):

what is underlined.

OpenStudy (iluvsoccer):

Soil

OpenStudy (misssmartiez):

I believe so, since it is directly stated,

OpenStudy (misssmartiez):

A and C is obviously wrong. It doesn't describe a noun, it IS a noun. It isn't an indirect item, like: I am looking at that strange item. item is indirect, since it isn't directly identified.

OpenStudy (misssmartiez):

It could be anything. On the other hand, this is a simple sentence, and I think rake would be D. Soil A, though.

OpenStudy (iluvsoccer):

And in my book it says: A Direct Object is a noun or pronoun that receives the action of the verb. Soil is a Noun and it receives the action of the verb which is, "Soil.' :)

OpenStudy (misssmartiez):

Exactly! That is what I presume :).

OpenStudy (iluvsoccer):

Thanks! :)
